Captain of the soccer team, president of the Debate Club, contender for valedictorian: Taylor’s always pushed herself to be perfect. After all, that’s what is expected of a senator’s daughter. But one impulsive decision—one lie to cover for her boyfriend—and Taylor’s kicked out of private school. Everything she’s worked so hard for is gone, and now she’s starting over at Hundred Oaks High.
Soccer has always been Taylor’s escape from the pressures of school and family, but it’s hard to fit in and play on a team that used to be her rival. The only person who seems to understand all that she’s going through is her older brother’s best friend, Ezra. Taylor’s had a crush on him for as long as she can remember. But it’s hard to trust after having been betrayed. Will Taylor repeat her past mistakes or can she score a fresh start? (Goodreads)

3/5 stars, didn't love it...didn't hate it
While there isn't anything wrong with Defending Taylor by Miranda Kenneally, it certainly wasn't the book for me. Sure there's a bit of humor, angst, and sexy times, and it was a fast read, but it made me kind of mad. Taylor is such a pure-hearted, focused teenager that I felt sorry for her over and over again. She gets walked on, pressured, bad-mouthed, and all because she's trying to help and impress people who don't see her for how she is or how she wants to be. The poor girl struggles throughout the whole book to find her voice. Despite that, I did enjoy the characters, although the family dynamics were inconsistent and the relationship with (spoiler) seemed way too easy. Even though the plot was of a subtle nature, I found myself rooting for Taylor to find her voice, defend herself, and finally choose herself over anyone else.
PS- The tagline on the book and the last two lines of the Goodreads description are more betraying than anything happening in the book...It seems like they were included to make the book sound more daring than it was.
Defending Taylor by Miranda Kenneally will be published July 5, 2016.
